_____R P M " s______
« on: Jun 20, 2006, 10:55:56 PM »
Hey Guys ______ What “SHOULD” a 22re engine ,5 sp.,idle at and, what would be the (HIGHEST EXEPTABLE) rpm, at idle? ? ? ?  Also, just curios, what you guys idle at” and on what engines” and the ramifications of a 1000 rpm idle, if NOT corrected? ? ? ? It seems when my rpm’s are lower than 1000, when I come to a stop, the rpm’s start dipping and 50% of the time stall the engine._____  THANKS IN ADVANCE  BAYRUNNER

Hey bayrunner

The engine is programmed to idle at 800 rpm, however an acceptable range is from 800 to 1200 rpm.

If you want to save gasoline and prevent the engine from running hotter than normal, try to slow the idle down to about 800 rpm, if not less. You can do this by using the idle adjustment screw on your throttle body.

If it idles at 1000, or 1200, or even 1500, nothing bad would happen, except for wear and the comsumption of gas.

When do your rpms begin to fall? Is it right before you come to a complete stop? Have you tried shifting into netural while at speed, and then using the brakes to come to a stop again? If so, then at what speed do the rpms begin to fall below your normal idle speed?

and  do you hear a hissing sound in the cab??   could be your brake booster is bad  and when you apply the brakes to stop  it causes a radical vacuum drop  that causes the engine to stumble

Mine is idling pretty smooth at about 900 RPM right now...
IFS is best kept at ambient temperature in a pile of scrap in the backyard.  When kept under a functioning vehicle, it tends to greatly diminish said vehicle's offroad ability.     -reklund5

if you have done any engine work/had valve cover off (meaning removing vacuum lines) lately, just double check your lines.  I had a similar problem a couple years ago after I put a new engine in my truck, turned out I had the brake booster line hooked to the plenum where the PCV valve hose was supposed to be.  I was finally able to get mine to idle at 750 smoothly.

But he won't notice that unless he was coasting in netural while braking, or he kept it in gear while braking below 1000rpm or so.
