2001 Taco Transfer case
« on: Apr 08, 2006, 08:36:14 AM »
oh, whats the story on the transfer cases. Half the people I talk to say Tacos' have  chain drive transfer case, then a quarter say just the v6 do, and then the other quarter look at me half shy and ask, "whats a transfer case"

So, Whats the skinny, all tacos? or just the v6 with the chain drive transfer case.

Thanks

taco boxes are chain drive.  Pretty much ALL toyota tcases with a drivers side output are chain drive, 4cyl/V6/V8

well then. I presume that settles it.  Chain drive it is. I had heard somewhere that the 4cyl was a gear drive. But i was still unsure.
I was under the impression that all of the pre 95.5 were gear drive..and I thought the older 4 cyl tacomas were also ger drive. But I really don't know.

what are the benifits of a chain drive as to a gear drive?  And is that whine in 4 low the chain?
