I'd say go with a Tuff country 2.5" lift. I got it on my tundra (2000 ltd 4X4) and it's will easily fit 32 or 33's A nice set of Baja styles 172 polished alum's in 17 x 8 with center caps would fininsh it out nice  :bling:  some 285' fitted to the 17" rim would be 32.6" and there are lots of all season and all-terran truck tires in that size.

Try Fabtech, Camburg and Donahoe Racing, they all specialize in Toyota 2bys

If your buddy has a budget and wants something at a reasonable price, go with a spacer kit: cornfed, toytech, tuff country, daystar, revtek.

For better performance and a budget of around $600-$800+, go with coilovers: Donohoes, Kings, Sway Aways, Teamwest Sway Aways, Fabtech(basic and performance version), Doestch Tech, Bilstein.  DO NOT DEAL WITH A COMPANY CALLED AIM INDUSTRIES INC.(www.truckn.com).  They have a set of adjustable coilovers for around $400 for a tundra.  Long story short, the product is pretty much crap and their customer service sucks a$$.

Long travel options: Total Chaos, Camburg

To fit 33's, you'll need at least 2"-2.5" of lift and a backspacing of about 4 5/8".  I had 4 5/8" BS with 285-75-16 and it rubbed a tad on the mud flaps and on the frame at full stuff and full turn(in either direction).  With a 2WD you can go up to 3.5" of lift but, watch out for the upper ball joints.

Then there's a 3" body lift.

I've got a 2000 Tundra 4X4 that I put a Fab-Tech 2 1/2" suspension lift with a 3" body kit and running 35" BFG Muds with no problems. 315.75.16 on 10" wide rims.I installed everything at home myself  with my dad in the garage. Everything was bolt on and that was three years ago. I'm very satisfied with this set up. A little more articulation would be nice, but i still have the sway bars in.
