Idle goes down when ac is engaged
« on: Jan 08, 2006, 02:50:33 PM »
AC fixed, Truck idles fine, but when I turn on AC idle is halved and won't cool while idling....cool when driving.  This system I has an idle up control vavle, I've already moved it around some didnt notice any change. Any ideas?

look at the idle up solenoids on the pass, fender,  they control the idle up  control,   could be a bad vacuum line or switch

The AC Idle up valve could be routed wrong, or plugged. Does it make a difference if it is screwed all the way in or out?

Also, does your truck warm up correctly? Even if it reads 40% on the temp gauge, have you felt the upper radiator hose while it's warmed up? If it is really ~190 degrees, then you wouldn't be able to hold onto the hose for more then about 2-3 seconds.

I ask this because the A/C is supposed to not work the idle up when the truck is cold because it is still using the cold idle. It also incorporates 4WD with the system, but I have never seen a difference. I've used AC in Marlin's 4WD truck both with it cold and in 4WD and it worked just fine :headscratch:

I checked the resistance on the solinoid resistor and the maual says it should be between 2-3 ohlms and mine was 3.2ohlms between +B and the other two lines. As for the VSV (i think the one that connects with two hoses to the AC idle up valve) when i disconnect one of the vacume lines from the AC idle up valve the idle goes up some but it does not go back up to normal idle or surpase it. Could it be the solinoid or is the problem in the valve that connects to the ac idle up valve? P.S. does anyone have the way the vacume line diagram for the ac idle up valve?
