Plowing with Manual 5-Speed
« on: Dec 20, 2005, 04:55:38 PM »
Hello,
I've started plowing this winter with and '86 Toyota 4x4 with a manual transmission and a poly 6.5 foot meyer blade.
I've only owned the truck for a few months and it's had a hard life.
I was wondering if anyone else is plowing with a 5-speed and if it's too much work for this truck's clutch.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

I have stock gears.  The reason I ask about the clutch is because I fried mine.

hope your useing 4low when plowing. I know speed plays a bit of a factor in plowing butt I don't know how much.

if it's not that big a deal you may want to use Marlin's 4.7 gears in your transfer case. :twocents:
A good day working, that's just sick :reg:

What does your truck have 4 cylinder? Like you are hearing gears are a factor, I ran my white truck with 4 cyl
88 5 speed  and had great success never broke any thing after years of trail abuse. It did have a locker in the back. The only advice I would have is try to get a (6 inch rate) with your customers  for lots to keep the beating to a minimum. Yes you may need 4L more than you would like.
Good luck and chase them snow flakes
