My Trucks Stalling Issue a little help maybe?
« on: Nov 14, 2005, 12:53:55 PM »
I have an intermited problem and need some suggestions and direction, my truck runs great but every-now-and-then it will just stall, and once it starts it continues sometimes and sometimes it seems to work itself out. I've done all the usual things to see if it would help and it still does it. I can go all day sometimes and other days it just annoys the crap out of me.

I have a 22r/20r hybrid motor, header, have replaced the ingniter with the later solid state unit. the carb is 20r as is the intake and head but the block is 22r. It has everything required in smog for an 80 so it looks as it would and operates the same as the 80 20r setup.

could be a short in the fuse box.my 79 would do that sometimes.I can't remember which fuse it was.Just take all the fuses out and clean the contacts.

Thought of that and replaced all the fuses and emery clothed the contacts. I will double-check that though. I'm not to sure it's electrical since if I rev up the engine it will run ok except for a little stumble as it revs up but once running at speed it's fine. It will do this off and on road, with or without the a/c on.

I would check the fuel filter first. Then plugs, wires and air cleaner. Sometimes if the plug wires get too hot ignition won't work correctly.

First thing I replaced was the filters and such, I'll check the wires and plugs to see if one may be burning hot.

Yeah, with the plug wires too close to the exhaust manifold you can have problems. Also, not to insult you or anything, but if the fuel filter is the wrong direction you'll also have problems.

so it only stalls at idle?
If so it could be the idle solenoid on the carb.If it's got a loose connection it will do that also.

Hmmmm,I can't remeber right off hand but it should have one wire running to it.I think it's on the top/front of the carb

I'll go look for it should be easy to find, and I'll check the  wires to see what they look like. :crossed:
