Transfer case ticking
« on: Nov 03, 2005, 03:30:57 PM »
My '85 Runner started ticking in 2wd only. It stops ticking when placed in 4wd H or L. It has Marlin gears in it. Sometimes it will stick between High and Low and come out unless I move the Runner back and forth. Any Ideas?

Did you buy it assembled or did you do the work your self?

There are some clearance issues that need to be addressed when putting the 4.7's in. It may be related to that.

Have you tried to call Marlin's? Ask for Marlin or Rocky.

They are very busy rite now moving the shop so be patint, you will get the answer you need.

You may have to pull it out and open it up to see what is happening unless you bought it assembled.

I bought it that way from a "friend" and nothing was mentioned about it. I did not notice it on previous outings.

I know he has put several thousand miles on it after the build.

I know how hard it is to get thruogh to Marlin on the phone.

Thanks

Mine makes a really light ticking noise after a weekend of wheeling. Typically only hear it when I put it in 2wd on the cruise home.. after a few days it goes away.

You check the u-bolts or driveline to make sure nothings lose?

About a year ago I had problems with my front t-case hitting the cab, it seemed to creep back further and further. Come to find out the u-bolts had come lose and allowed everything to torque up and down when you gave it gas.
