Noobie Question ? Welded IFS ?
« on: Jul 26, 2005, 10:11:50 PM »
I have a 90 4X4 with IFS.  I have a detriot in the rear & plan to go SAS next spring.  I did not want to waste any money on an IFS locker in the mean time.  Will a quick lincoln lock job sufice ? :crossed:

I currently only have a 4" lift, 32" ATs, and a Detroit locker in the rear.  I want to save as much money as I can for a SAS, regear, Dual TCs, & 37"s.  But I have to be able to do some wheeling in the mean time.

THANKS!

IM A NOOB!! :stopit:

Just leave the detriot in the rear when you do the ifs.  I put my detriot in the front and welded the rear.  Ended up breaking a front axle shaft which took out the detriot.  Wasn't really that mad, just took awhile to scavenge up a carrier to replace the detriot with.  Welded that up and through it in the front, not that bad of turning either.

IF you have the money when you do the SAS, dont put the detroit in the front. Save for an ARB so you can disengauge it when you turn it makes for turning in tight places much MUCH easier...

and they're a hell of a lot easier on birfs...when used sparingly, anyway.

Thats what I would always do. Just lock one till I got stuck and then lock the other. Or if I knew it was going to be a good run I'd just lock both. But then again thats for mud. It doesn't really let you turn not matter what you've got.
