Why waste the $$ on a locker for ifs?  You are going to break cv axles on a very regular basis....

mudaddict, it isnt hard to drop the whole third.  As for being locked, I am locked in the front, and I have yet to break a CV :psss: but I am picking up spares anyway

I found it easiest to use ramps for this, if nothing else it gives you better work angles.  IT is nice to have a buddy helpyou, but you dont need another person.

1. unbolt driveshaft, zip tie it up out of the way (along the torsion bar is good)
2. unbolt the CV axles from both sides.  (leave that front bolt in for now, it helps prevent twisting of the entire third)  To get the CVs, I didnt have air tools, so I had to lock the hubs, and break loose two or three bolts, then unock the hubs, spin the axle, and lock the hubs again.  There are 6 bolts on either axle
3. after both CVs are off the third, get a floor jack or jackstand and start unbolting the third from the frame.  there are 3 bolts i think on top of the third on the pass side, 2 on the drivers side, and the bolt that goes through the diff. cover.  To get the third out, you might have to take off the diff cover, i did when i took my old third out, and it was a PITA to put the new diff in with the cover on.  your preference.
4.  lower the jackstand or floor jack until the third is sitting on the IFS frame assembly.  get out of the way, make sure your legs are out of the way, and push the third through the frame and let it fall.  It wont hurt the third, and it is a huge hassle to lower it and move it using a floor jack or something like that.  You can even lower te truck back down of the jackstands or ramps so the third doesnt have as far to fall.  if you take the dif plate off, make sure you dont let it fall on the ring gear.  :psss: dont do do this on cvoncrete unless you put cardboard or plywood down first, you can break the concrete when the third falls.  If you need anymore help, let me know.

:psss: If you are going with a locker and 5.29s, I may have an available IFS diff this summer, already setup

The rear is uber easy to weld up.  PM To the floor or skinny pedal.  One of them should still have the 3rd that I welded up so you can see how its done.

I will have a IFS Diff for sale in a couple of weeks with 4.10's and an EZ Locker already installed.  If you want it shoot me a PM and we can work something out.

I ran it in my 91 Toyota for about 3-4 years and never broke a front axle.

The studs that hold the CV axles in are a pain. Pound them out and either grind off the ribs so they are just like bolts or use some grade 8 bolts in thier place. Makes all the difference in the world for next time. I've not had too many problems with CV axles as far as breakage, mostly torn boots are my problem. But I only run in the mud, no rocks or anything like that where I am so it's a different kind of stress on them.

When taking the CVs out, try using a jack under the A-arm and try playing with the angle a bit, it gives you a little more room. Oh and strip any paint off the diff cover and polish the snot out of it for some :bling:  :talkingn:
