Newbie Checking In
« on: Apr 18, 2005, 09:01:03 PM »
Another newbie checking in.  Here's the stats:  '85 Yota, 3" Alcan, tube bumpers and sliders, worn out 32" SSR's, 5.29 w/ ARB's for the future upgrade to 35's.  I'm 95% done with a renovation to replace the tired 22R with 2003 4.3L Vortec, 4L60E, and twin-sticked 23-spline T-case.  Had it rumbling in the garage last weenend without any exhaust.  Geez it's loud.  Unfortunately it may be a 2WD rig until I can solve the front driveshaft clearance issue that I've stumbled into as the resultant combination of hi-pinion, 4L60E, and really short custom T-case adapter.  It's not looking like it'll be an easy fix. :smack:  I'm hoping I can get some ideas on how to best address some of the issues that came up over the last few months.

I may be a newbie but everybody knows "this thread is worthless without pictures" so here's a shot prior to the Vortec.  Hopefully it attaches correctly.
If it never breaks, people can only speculate how much it was overbuilt.

I'm in Oregon.  It's pretty nice for wheeling diversity because we have sand dunes on the coast, mountains and mud in the middle, and high elevation desert in the east.  It makes it tough to pick a tire though.  Another drawback is that the west side of the state, where I'm at, gets an awful lot of gray rainy days in a typical year.  Makes for some good mud-whumping in theory but that'll have to wait until the Vortec is up and running as the old 22R only had something like 96 hp from the factory (a CA model) and I'm fairly certain it wasn't that healthy when I pulled at at 245000 miles.  It's a shame to lose the reliability of the 22R but I'm looking forward to double the horsepower and improved fuel economy in my daily driver.  The jury's still out on whether or not I can tolerate an automatic on and off-road.
If it never breaks, people can only speculate how much it was overbuilt.

How big are the files?  There is a 90 kB file size limit in general.  They also have a file type restriction but all of this is listed under the "Attach" box under "Additional Options" when posting messages.  If that all looks okay, send a message to BigMike cause he knows how all this works.
