Leaking radiator fluid under intake manifold
« on: Apr 01, 2022, 09:48:03 PM »
So I had a bit of an issue Sunday.  My truck started running hot and when I pulled over it was leaking a lot of fluid what appeared to be under the intake manifold. I just recently had neck surgery so I can’t really get a good look or even work on my truck right now.  After it ran hot I was able to fill it with fluid and limp home.  It didn’t run hot like earlier but when I parked I got out and it was flowing water in that same area.  There is no water in the oil.  Does this sound like a head gasket or is there a hose there I can’t see that could have burst?

16261b is the fitting under intake. My 84 was leaking at this fitting.

I’m going to try to see today if I can find where the leak is coming from.   It’s more like a flow under pressure than a leak.  It really was gushing out radiator fluid.

Maybe a pin hole in a freeze plug.

Ovrarok, is this the same layout as on the ‘82 model engines?  I am seeing leaking at a fitting and hose that appears to be the one you mentioned.

That's a basic 22r. I don't know what motor is in the early models, as I have not owned one.

It’s a 22R, just the pre-84 block

Coolant flows through the 22r intake. There is a plate on the bottom of the intake that is sealed with a gasket. The intake has to come off to deal with it. I had to replace the gasket on my Uncles 87 and not long after the one on my 84 started leaking. Just another possibility.
