R154 to 22re (UNIMOG AXLES)
« on: Apr 02, 2017, 08:56:15 PM »
Hello all, Im trying to get a R154 tranny in a Toyota pickup with the 22re. Ive searched a bunch and it seems most people just get talked out of it due to the gear ratios not being ideal for 4wd applications. I am running unimog axles with 7.56 gearing so these undesirable ratios are actually desirable for me.

from other searching I gather I can use the 151 or 150 tail housing to make the 154 into a 4wd tranny but I'm not sure how I will get it to bolt to the 22re. Everything I've searched on this they are just matting it to the supra engines backing out of the swap in the 22re engines due to gearing so hopefully someone here can help me. Im sure not a lot of people have done this but hopefully someone has some good info.

Thanks in advance!!

You could try using this for the bell housing:

I don't know what freight would be but it is an option.

Some have swapped an R151 rear housing on to an R150, but I am not sure if that would work with the R154. You may need to get both gearboxes and see what fits what.

Thanks for the help. yeah I was hoping someone has done this before so I don't have to acquire more than needed to figure this out. That adapter looks promising. ill have to see if the input shaft is the same on the 151/150 and the 154. Or if the bell housings are interchangeable as well. If they are and the length the same then this might just work perfect
