1984 3/4 ton pickup?
« on: Jun 17, 2016, 08:20:08 PM »
I acquired a 1984 xtra cab pickup with a 2.4 diesel and this truck has never been on the highway. It drove down a mine drift carrying diamond drilling equipment and an ore cart. It was in a cave in which pushed down the front clip which I have now replaced. I heard in 1984 Toyota made a 3/4 ton and the GVW on mine is 5080 lbs. I have a 1985 xtra cab 22RE and GVW is 4800 lbs. Is this really a 3/4 ton and will the Front Axle Service kit be compatible? Also there are no tags on the axles so I need to know the gear ratio, how do I get this. Is there any information in the serial number on the truck?

If it's 4wd, it's a 1/2 ton, period.  They made 3/4 and 1 tons, but only in 2wd variations.

you can jack up the rear axle and count how many times your tires spin per driveshaft revolution

only the 2wds came in weird configurations other than 1/2 ton

I had a weird 2wd, that apparently didn't exist, is what everyone told me, but it did.... so..... basically, my 85 std cab, 6 ft bed (short), carbed 22r, laser block, had an 8" rear end, 3.07 gears, a w55 and was still a 5 lug 1/2 ton..... It also was an 85, but had a plastic tailgate handle, and an external bed rail

people were sure I did not have an 8" rear end, but I put the rear end from a friends 86 4runner with 4.10s in it and that was 4wd.... so......

Based on your writeup (axles) you have a 84 solid front axle.  The 4wd rebuild kit for the front axle is the same.  Truck jus probably a 2L
