Re: Why do so many people run 4.11 ratios?

My thoughts on this are tho, for serious rock crawlers (who should be running 1ton axles or 2.5s or mogs) but for those running their toyota axles hard, they SHOULD be running the LOWEST axle ratio they can, I hear stories of blown driveshafts, blown transfer cases and bad clutches. when a 5.71 diff (see ZUKs artical at gearinstalls.com before you say they are weak) is used in a toyota axle, it puts the actual WORK at the axles and out,
marlin sells thicker flanges, chromoly outputs, thicker outputs. having the LOWEST RATIO AVAILABLE would make all those parts see more RPM and less TORQUE.

I'm not sure I understand what you're saying.  Assuming a set speed (mph) as when the differential gears are changed from 4.10 to 5.71 the engine RPM will increase and the available torque will increase.  A numerically higher gear ratio will produce more torque AND and higher RPM.

Are you suggesting that by putting the engine at a higher RPM you'll be in a part of the toque curve where there is actually less torque?  What am I missing?
