I'd probably go with a nice hot pass of 6010, like 80-90 amps to really dig into the metal, then maybe follow up with a 7018 to reinforce.  I'd also spray the whole third liberally with an anti spatter spray.  It'll keep all the spatter from sticking really bad to all the inner parts.  After welding, clean the third as well as possible.
