For off road you would be greatly appreciative of lower tcase gearing, definitly combined with lower differential gearing would be best.
With that said i have 5.29's and 37"s. But have ran the same gears with 33"s when i first sas'd it. I still wish i had much lower gearing offroad.
A different approch that you may consider would be spending the money on dual ultimates for the trail and looking for a set of factory 4.88's which you may be able to find for quite a bit cheaper. Those would also be good for the road. 5.29's are nice around town but i sometimes wish i had 4.88's for the highway so my rpms were a little lower.
