Sounds familiar. My first 22re that blow up throw the #3 rod out the side of the block. Stopped on the side of the road opened the hood and could see the crankshaft though the hole in the block. Shut the hood started it up and drove 4 miles before it died. Put a junk yard 22re in and that motor lasted only a year. So I rebuilt one myself and so far so good. Has 40,000 miles on it and still running strong. Cost a fortune though.
