I personally wouldn't do this.  Drag racers used to do this, which was fine, cause the tires didn't last more than a couple races.  But when your screwing right into the steel bundle, which is part of the integrity of the tire.  You risking on having the sidewall coming apart on you.  Especially on the hwy.  This is called tire separation.
