You being from Texas I can understand the desire for a snorkle - that seems to be one of the most popular mods for most of the Tacos there.
When I go to events in TX, I ask them from time to time where they can find deep enough water to justify a snorkel. Everyone corrects me and says it's for getting the intake higher than the "dust line" when following others on dirt roads, etc. So there's you another reason other than just water issues.
