I put a set of recarro's out of an MR2 into an '86 std. I restored, and there was actually more leg and head room than with the bench seat.

You should be able to get the same results by using a set of buckets out of a 2nd gen stad. cab. The ones in the '84 (2wd) I am restoring for my nephew seem to provide a good amount of leg room for me at 6'2".
