If I remember there was something on pirate about someone taking the gear and shaft from a cable operated speedo and fitting it into a case that had a speed sensor .... (or the other way around  :dunno: ). I am sure you can make it work some how, but I do not know exactly what it would involve.... I would try looking around on pirate. I think it involved leaving the retaining clip off of the shaft for it to fit..... or you could swap out your speedo to an electronic one..... good luck.
