and by the way, more advanced timing = more efficiency meaning more power per unit of fuel = better power per unit of fuel used(unchanged by initioal timing). you want to run the maximum amount of timing possible with no pinging whatsoever, unless you live at a high elevation and drive the truck at a lower elevation occasionally, then leave it dialed back (retarded a little). I go about 1/2 degree per 1000ft elevation. remeber, air at lower elevations is denser, more atomospheric pressure..
