When I swapped my 88 rear axle into my 85, I used the 88 e-brake cable so I didn't have to mess with the 85 cable, I used the 88 axle plate deals ("B" in the above picture) and had some new u-bolts made because mine were so rusted on I had to cut them off. I was real easy, hardest part is bleeding the brakes because it can take a while. It took me maybe an hour to swap mine in, probably less.
