thanks a lot guys and i feel a lot better cause i was sure the ones i have are both called top shift and i got all screwed up but now im good again and yes its that hook deal that sticks out. i originally thought i could grind it down but a whole lot would have to come off to clear the tranny and i havent decided it if matters but that hook on the later model one keeps it from going all the way in whereas the older has a c clip on the fork. i havent pulled apart the newer one but it does not look like it has that c clip to keep it from going too far and its really not super difficult to pull the cases apart anyways its more a matter of finding the time now. i dont have a day off til thursday so i have to be patient and wait to put it back together.

:o  i thought it was hot here at 85 the other day. today was more like 70 which is still a little warm by my standards.
