I have a 97 central manifold injected 4.3 in my third gen. I was running a w series tranny, I blew two of them up before I switched to the th 350, I also changed the rear end, now I'm running a taco rear end, a non trd on. This set up seems to work great. Alot of it has to do with how hard you are on the truck. My truck puts almost 200 ponies to the ground with 37's, so it's nothing to bat your eyes at. The nice thing about the 4.3 is the way that it makes power, it's a really torquey motor, it's not real high strung like most yota motors. My truck was perfect with 410 thirdmembers and a w series. I would recommend either a r series or a chevy trans.
