I'll vouch for them being tuff.  when I first got my truck done origionally I had just swapped a 83 rearend into it and couldnt get the flange off for the life of me so I drilled 2 of the bolt holes to 3/8 and drove it.  Well I forgot about the missing bolts thing and when it had about 1500 miles on it I went mudding pretty heavily.  The dang things never even loosened up let alone broke!
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??
