Well I do like my S&W 629.

:yesnod:  my dream gun indeed.....and I second going to the gun store and handling as many as possible.  I had a certain ruger .357 in mind but thought the frame was too big for my little girly hands, went to check it out and it still looked too big, but when I picked it up it couldn't have fit my hand any better.  If you're set on an auto though I'd stick with the .40 cal for all around shootability and everyday usefullness, small enough to shoot a lot of loads and big enough to cure what ails ya.
RIP KYOTA

You can go through life being scared of the possible, or you can have a little fun and tease the inevitable.

Give a man venison, he'll eat for a day. Teach a man to hunt Blacktail, he'll be frustrated for life!
