I am installing vented rotor and ifs calipers on my 83 and I was curious as to what folks are runnig for brake pads. On my 80 series LC, the OEM pads seem to be much better than most of the aftermarket stuff. Just curious if that is true for the trucks as well or is there a suitable (read cheaper) aftermarket pad that works well on the trucks. My truck will see some DD duties and will be driven to the trails so I need something that will last reasonably well.

TIA

I use the AE brake pads from Napa.  They hold up pretty well and dont seem to fade as bad as some others Ive ran.

There's a company called "metal master" that supposedly makes good stuff. I've never run them, but everyone I know who has swears by them. I personally use organic pads. They are cheap, and don't grind into your rotor like some of the metal/ semimetalic pads I've used in the past.

I got the standerd NAPA pad on my 83 with vented rotors and IFS calipers.  :beerchug:  works good for me   :ladys-man:

I'm running raybestos organic pads and they squeak like a mother thats probally from all of the mud i go through. :-\\ Oh and don't blow extra money on the lifetime pads cause it just a scam cause if you read what the warrenty covers it says that they will only replace the pads for factory defect like if the pad falls off. And they clearly state that they are not responable for anything that there defective product has dameged or destroyed.

OEM pads are the only way to fly...also pick up a set of shims and a fit kit from the dealership while you are there...

No squeaky, good worky!
