Yes it has a solid front axle. I believe some have swapped FJ40 axles into patrols as well.

Here's some fabrication pics of one..
 
Here's what one looks like lifted on a D44 and ford 9 w/ 36 tsl's.









this one has a 302 motor in it.

I found it on www.nissan4wheelers.com the guys screen name is DATZ510 it's a pretty sick patrol.
