I believe orginally that to achieve a GL-5 rating,  a sulfur compound was added to the oil.

This sulfur compound would attack the brass/bronze synchro rings.


They may be able to achieve the GL-5 rating without the sulfur compound now.     So you won't have any problems with the synchro rings anymore.       Check the label,   find the MSDS sheet and see if there's sulfur in the oil.
