I don't know for sure, but in theory your O2 sensor is designed to work Worth the restrictive flow over a cat, therefore if you had no cat it would not make a difference 
Just a thought, maybe it will work. 
ya the cat gets hot<pipe gets hot< O2 gets hot
with no cat the o2 is not at right temp.
