On my duel case setup:
Front 2.28 case:
L
N
H
Rear 5.0 case with twin stick:
L    2wd
N   4wd
H

Nothin gets hurt by running in 4wd with hubs unlocked, or hubs locked and not in 4wd. Unless you have a square dline like me and then speed is limited.
