I have 35s with 4.56 gears and a 3.0 in my 4runner and I daily mine and it's fine... And yes Toyota wheeling is alot cheaper, I've got just over $3k into mine including the cost of the vehicle 
You are absolutely correct. Toyota wheeling is way cheaper. Had a Jeep, and would have to put buckets of cash into it to make it work as good as a mildly built Toyota
