Matt, that 88 looks too nice to wheel, but so did that silver tower of 4Runner you had.
When are you free from Uncle Sam?
I was also thinking the 90s 3.4 swap will be easier, but the SAS might offset the "easy factor" and then there's the rear coil springs to deal with. I think I can run leafs out back but haven't
really looked into that.
Initially I thought of doing the "new wiring/dash into old 4Runner" trick but wiring still scares me too much to do myself. I'd give it a try if all else fails but I'm still hesitant about it. I can weld, fab and paint; wiring is not in my bag of tricks yet.
Wife says I can build one thing at a time so I'd have to sell the 85 frame/body before I start on the 90s Runner. Naturally I'd keep all the suspension bits too; no use in selling off stuff I'd need in the future. It'd have a full interior, slightly damaged topper, truck tailgate and vanilla air freshener to go with it. I'd go as far to throw in my 84's gray interior parts that are still collecting dust just to get stuff moving along.
I'm going to try to get a hold of the 90's 4R guy this week; last week was busy as hell with friends from PA visiting and the 4th and whatnot. Seemed like the weekend went on for a few days more than it should have...
