When the government opens the gate, which seems to be later & later every year, biased on my 45+ years of red / coyote trail use. Snow used to close the trails, now it is government gates.
Did you know that that trail used to loop through coyote, beryl & out to brewer lake, before the enviros infiltrated the forest service.

I call & write the forest service every year to ask them to at least open the gate at 168 before june 1st.
A few years ago one forest service employee told me he would not open the gate on "HIS" trail until there was no moisture ( not snow) on the trail.

Good Luck & Happy Wheelin on whats left & open.

Save our forest from the sierra club, they are the enemy of outdoor enthusiast everywhere.

I called the prather forest service office and got ahold of the ohv manager, Said that sandy flats will not be open until 6-15-12 though he did said call back about 5-22 the week before Memorial day, there may be a chance the open it early for the big weekend.

I talked to a forest service officer yesterday and he said he thought they might be open the first weekend in June. Fingers crossed.

The forest service has to have waivers for safety reasons and you would need to be on their list, but it is appreciated. As soon as they give us the okay, the Fresno club will post it and i will post it here

x2!  I've been hunting and camping in that area for years,  just started wheeling this last year however.  Let me know if I and my friends can help.  We have no problems getting cleared on waivers with the forest service if need be.

The trail still has a couple issues and should be open around the 15th as scheduled but with the wind storms there could be a delay...its up to the forest service at this point. will keep you posted.
