My 83 build up
« on: Oct 02, 2010, 10:52:58 PM »
so i thought i would make a forum for my truck, so here it is. its a 83 short bed pickup. my dad bought it in 88 and has slowly built it up since. ever since i was old enough for him to not change my sh**y diapers on the trail, he has takin me wheelin. so when he got a new truck a few years ago, we put it away on the side of my house till i was old enough to drive it (legally). anyways now iv had my lisense for a few months and im going to continue the never ending project...
the truck has a 22r thats only 8 years old or so. dual stock tcases w/ marlin adaptor :turtle: stock axels front and rear w/ trd limited slips and 5.29s. 35" mtrs, rancho 9000's up front and 5000's in the rear, skyjacker 5" springs f/r i think.marlin high-steer. on board air w/ custom rear bumper air tank.
the current set up works really well. (what toy doesnt?) but i definitley have some upgrades in mind though! its flexes pretty good up front, but the back is just wayy to stiff, so im getting 63" chevys, i want to do a partial exo, and tube front bumper.. but that all has to wait untill i get some funds haha.

the truck still has the original paint, but the roof hasnt had paint on it for years and is starting to rust, so for the last few days iv been wet sanding and im painting it primer grey. heres some pics of what i did today..

we pounded out  the dents in the bed as best as i could, but they still stand out realy bad

i painted the toyota label on the tailgate black and taped it off

thats as far i got today, my goal was to have it one color by monday, and i sure il make it haha
il post pics as soon as i peal the tape when the paint dries!

good to see the "disease" carry over to the next generation. i hope to do the same for my son.

Cheers

Cool, but you'll want to get a sealant over that primer or you'll just be dealing with rust again soon.

Cool, but I strongly suggest you do 2 things just prior to going to maico:  sand it back down and hit it with a good quality primer/sealer and sand it smooth, then re-shoot again to cover any thin spots.

Remove all little pieces that are easily removed, like marker lights, tail lights, grill, headlight doors, etc., and personally mask stuff like the frame and door handles that you can't remove.  Otherwise they'll do a shitty job and you'll be stuck with overspray on everything.  You'll also want to force them to cover the tires and wheels or they'll just shoot them too.
