1985 4runner with 33's and 3" lift from Upstate NY
« on: Jan 26, 2010, 05:08:00 PM »
Hey Everyone. I've had my 85 4runner for about a month now. Progress is really slow as i'm a new father and that's priority one. Heres the specs:
86 cab/shell on 85 frame
22re with 75.8K miles
5speed
24 year old Ziebart underbody rust coating
33 inch procomps
3 inch rough country lift

I'm kind of a brand w-h-o-r-e but not neccessarily for the best brand but the one that carries everything i want. I have a list of just north of $4K for marlin parts to get my runner where i want it to be. I'm Active Duty Navy and there cutting me a big check so i gots the money :usa: :sly: Heres the jist:
front and rear lockers with 5.29's (assembled 3rd members)
high steer
axle rebuild kits and accessories
various odds and ends to strengthen things up

I can't post pictures yet (not enough posts). But i will put them on here when that feature becomes available.

No, I'm not Navy. I'm Army, but I'll be stationed at Ft. Drum and would be more than happy to introduce you more into the Yota family.

that would be good, your base is about 3 hours away from me, so a little bit of a drive but not overwhelming

Well i think i got my list finalized and will be ordering tomorrow.
1.) a complete diff with 5.29s and grizzly locker (possibly an ARB too with compressor and harness, read note below)
2.) ecoseals for front axle (already have TG front axle rebuild kit)
3.) rear axle rebuild kit
4.) magnetic drain plugs for diffs

thats it for Marlin Crawler im also ordering 30 spline longfields (free shift knob :D) and also their UHMW wiper seals. The grizzly is going into the rear axle so im going to order a trutrac locker built differential for the front from NWOR. Also because MC doesn't carry rear axles for my 4runner anymore, im hitting up trail gear for their chromoly axles.
NOTE: I would like to stick an ARB in the front, but think it might come out to be too much, will only be able to tell tomorrow when i make the call as NWOR does not advertise prices. So my list might change a bit to an ARB locker in place of the tructrac

My son is 7 days old as of today so this will be a very very slow build. Please guys give input to my choices. Thanks

Hit a bump in the road. Made the order over the phone with Brennan/Brendan and once i got it straightened out with the ARB locker :D i gave my credit card information and he said it was denied. Called the credit card company and it was computer generated denial as it was near $3000 spent. They "fixed" it. Brendan reprocessed it and again denied. Another call to my credit card company and found out VISA denied the charge both times. Appearently Marlin Crawler is a gambling company/business and no visa card will work. Same problem with Longfield superaxles. VISA will NOT let me use any of my cards to MC or Longfield. Im going to work something out and worse comes to worse i'll do a certified check.
P.S. they DO have a military discount

Gotta love those first gen runners. I have owned a few and would like to own another. My kids are getting old enought to take out with me but there isn't enough room in my trucks.

Welcome to :turtle: from N. CA. Nice 4runner. Cobalt looks nice too, how do you like it? Before I got my DD I was considering buying one, actually pretty stylish looking little cars, especially the SS.

I'm kind of a brand w-h-o-r-e but not neccessarily for the best brand but the one that carries everything i want. I have a list of just north of $4K for marlin parts to get my runner where i want it to be.

Nothing wrong with that, aside from junkyard parts my 4runner is all  :turtle:. I don't shop anywhere else.

Oh and thank you for your service  :usa:
