not really answering your question cuz i dont know about rebuilding a 3.4, but i would just search craigslist, i see ones that came from wrecked tacos/runners with around 60k miles for 700$ all the time. cant beat a low mileage oem engine.. :twocents:

true. that could be a good option. i guess i could find a complete one and swap over the harness and everything.

 ???

What exactly are you saying changed ?

IDK about the 4Runner's but the Tacoma's had the same 3.4 from 95.5-02. After that they got TBW <--- =  :pokinit:

i dont think they are bad but i could see more problems with them as the age vs. a cable.

but thats what i don't understand, theres still a cable to the throttle body from the gas pedal, but instead of just attaching to the throttle body with no electronics..the dbw almost looks like it has a tps attached to it where its on the intake (but its not a tps). but that was on travis's 04. does anyone know if the never ones are completely electronic? meaning no cable at all

x2 my motor no is out of a 02 4runner and now has about 137xxx on it

but thats what i don't understand, theres still a cable to the throttle body from the gas pedal, but instead of just attaching to the throttle body with no electronics..the dbw almost looks like it has a tps attached to it where its on the intake (but its not a tps). but that was on travis's 04. does anyone know if the never ones are completely electronic? meaning no cable at all

interesting i have never look at the pedal of a Toyota dbw but i do know my old 99f250 diesel was all wire. there was a little box built into the pedal and then like 6 wire from it. but that is odd that Toyota uses both cable and wire.
