EFI fuse blowing??
« on: Dec 28, 2009, 07:56:30 PM »
A buddy has a 91 p/u 22re that is blowing the EFI fuse.  Basically, you can start it and it will go about 100 feet and "pop."  He has checked all the grounds.  He is not very good at mechanics, and I wish I was closer since I have been trying to diagnose it over the phone with him.

So, what are the top ten things to look for that would cause this?
I'm thinking he needs to pull the harness and start checking them with a volt/ohm meter.
And then onto all the injectors, sensors, and such.

What do you all think?

This all started all of the sudden.  Zero problems, then on the way home pop!
Miss ya Dean (4THEWKN) & Kyle (KYOTA)!!

"Later, I learned that even though I engage 4WD my hubs are not automatically locking? Something about manual locking hubs I think. What's manual mean? I need to read a manual to lock them? lol  So I found these neat autolocking hubs and installed them. Sometimes they dont stay locked while I am backing up, but that's fine because I dont have a backup camera to see where Im going (like our RV) so I just simply dont ever back up"- BigMike

x2 on the O/2 sensor wire.  Mine melted to the exhaust pipe and was shorting out.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE
AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE.

IF YOU CAN'T FIX IT WITH A HAMMER, YOU HAVE AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.

Had that happen to me a few weeks ago on my 91 3vze - it was the fuel pump.
Every thing was going good as I was accelerating uphill and it cut out suddenly and wouldn't start again.
Blown EFI 15A fuse and the old pump didn't turn with 12V on it  - didn't try a new fuse though, just replaced it and the pump (216000mi on the clock).

I chased and chased the same issue for a loong time about 4 years ago.  Sometimes the fuse would last a minute, sometimes a week.  I finally got pissed off headed home after a long graveyard shift and put a couple male disconnects on a short piece of wire.  Been that way ever since. :talkingn:

Looks like that fuse supplies the Fuel pump, the ecu, Both 02 sensors, And the Air flow meter.  It also goes to the check connector.

Another vote for the O2 sensor wire. Happened on my kids 91 22RE. Was intermittent. When ever it happend to touch the exhaust it blew the fuse.

The one by the cat is the one everyone is talking about.
