Author Topic: Lilbuddy's 1986 Fo-Runna (Updated 12/12/2007 Lots of new stuff) (Read 116594 times)

Well, as some of you know, my 1981 Toyota Pickup decided to not like me. I put 2 rods through the block and cracked the frame pretty good. Along with cracking the frame, I (and also WillyMammoth) think that the frame could possibly be bent too. Along with that it had a cracked rear axle and it was getting pretty beat up. My first plan was to rebuild it and make it nice looking with a new frame, fuel inject it and get it painted and looking nice. Well, I then decided why do that when I want more room so I can take my friends wheelin anyway. So 2 weeks after the round up I just wanted to blow the motor (it wasnt blown it just had a terrible nock) so I turned it on and put my foot to the floor. About 30 seconds later, all hell broke loose and the thing exploded pretty good. So 2 weeks after that (and some serious searching for a new rig) I found a 1986 Runner on craigslist in chico for sale. The guy wanted 1100 for it. So I call the guy and ask about it and it hasnt been driven in 2 years and it didnt have a motor. So I check it out, tell my dad, few days later and $950 its in my driveway. So we tow it home and immedately I start workin on it. Ive had this thing since 9/27/2006 I just havent put up a build thread or really told anyone about it. I was just gonna keep it secret and get a run together and have a SASd 86 runner that im drivin in for fun, but decided that was kinda $That\'s Gay$ Anyway...

Here it is a couple days after I got it...

The guy gave me a motor to use but it had a lower end nock so I said screw that and Geno had a motor sitting in his garage that he let me have. So I put all my EFI stuff on that motor (it was just the block and head) and call it good. So I put in Geno's old motor and it took me a couple hrs to figure out why it wouldnt start (the groudn was bad), and finally got it started. When I got it started it was blowing blue smoke out the tail pipe, and a lot of it. It was also running like complete CRAP. Finally we figured out that 2 plug wires were mixed up and the timing was way off. So we got that fixed turned it on again, but then it was nocking soooo terrible. The motor was toast I thought. So I turn it off. Turn it on again and it was running SO PERFECT for once. Nothing wrong, then white smoke started POURING out the exhaust. So I was like, crap. So the next day I do a head gasket in it and call it good. Along with doin that I put in my Stage 2 LCE cam. Well I get it started again and it was still runnin crappy. So I thought it was the cam. So i swapped the cam out again and it still ran like crap. So I then test the TPS and the TPS was bad. So I swapped the cam for no reason and it was the TPS all along. So i finally get enough money for a TPS and put it in. Only problem when i went and got the tps, it started over heating (I drove the runner there and back and it was a journey let me tell you) and i pull it home and the radiator was broken. So i was like, this sucks i hate this thing im selling it. But I ended up keeping it and got the TPS adjusted right but it still ran crappy, so I adjusted the Timing, ever since its been running GREAT! So I get rid of those lame tires and rims on it and get some 31's from my buddy and throw them on.

And Heres my first trip "Wheelin"!! And my first carnage.. (Only thing was where I was at, I could do it in 2wd in my old truck with ease. In this i was in 4wd and mashing it and 3 wheelin it sooooo many times)

Couple weeks after that (yesterday) It rained here and i came home, my bro said lets go up to the cabin. Little did we know, that there would be SNOW! I was so stoked. Once we got to the dirt road to get to my cabin (10 miles long) it was allll snow. So much fun. This little turd did great in the snow. It was awesome.

Now my next step is tearing apart the old turd and taking my Rear third member, my front axle, my rear F150 springs/dual shackles, my dual cases and my tires and throwin them on this 4runner. I wanted to do it this weekend but money hasnt let me do it. So not this week but next I have off from school so I want to tear apart my old truck and get everything ready and welded on so I can do the swap. Yes I will have progress pictures and specs and stuff on it.

ahhh nuttin like wheeling a stock truck lol. especially going from what u had. I think everyone should be required to wheel a stock truck before anything is done. Makes u a better driver. I have to ask....did the fact that its blue have anything to do with the purchase?

Not at all. It was the only one that was cheap enough and what I wanted that was within 5 hrs of Chico.

Blue isnt even my favorite color... I want to paint it eventually. Mayve the same exact color as the other truck. I liked that color alot.

Theres no way ill be able to do any kind of run till I get a job. Besides im hoping to Get the SAS done not this week but next (9 days off from school)

Ummm, no! Even though there already is a huge dent in it on the driver side.

Indeed. Ill make it good. Im not puttin an exo on it so the body damage is gonna be controlled by my foot.

Cool, hearing you got a 4 runner, I love them 4 runners.

Are you going to let me bob this for you? We need to make plans when your going to drive down here and let me cut it up for you.

I also recommend getting a second top to use for the summer, lots of people leave it open, or with a bikini top, I love mine, it works great, keeps the sun off of your neck and is hard enough that you dont hear the wind pounding when your doing 85 on the freeway.
