Square boggers
« on: May 31, 2005, 07:26:43 PM »
I put on a new set of 35 10.5 15 boggers on  allied bead locks. They were great on the highway to start off with. Had about 25 psi in them and they were tolerable even with out balancing. I went on a trip over the weekend where I had them aired down to 3.5 in the front and 2 in the back for thee days. Last nigh I pulled it out of the trailer and aired up to 27 in the front and 20 in the back and I swear it bounces down the road like a god dam basket ball.  Anyone had this problem before? and how did you fix it.

They are bias ply so they flat spot.  Having the rig strapped tightly to the trailer with low pressure for an extended periosd of time will cause HUGE flat spots.  Just drive them for about 10 miles and the flat spots will go away. ;)
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

I have over 80 miles on them and they are still not any better. I am thinking about lowering the pressure to get a good bubble in the side wall and run them home from work and get them hot and air them up again when I get home. It's worth a shot. ZO6

I think it is flat spots for sure. When I am going say 10 mph I can feel each tire dip.......dip ......dip.....dip. If running them home low then pumping them back up doesn't work could the bead locks have slipped during a hard twist? I can even see it watching them run down the road looking out the window at them.  Junk.  Radials from now on. Z06~

Ok, if you bought boggers thinking they had decent street manners, that was your first mistake. If you have aired them down, run them hard, they are probably no longer balanced.

I knew that they were not going to be great on the highway. Where the problem is was they were FINE on the highway until after the trip now they are not. I am sure it is flat spots. It better be. If I go have them balanced and then the next trip they are this bad again then they are not the tire I want. If I can get them to ride like they did when I first put them on then I love them. I can't believe how bad these flat spots are and how they won't go away. I didn't get a chance to lower the pressure and run them a while to flex the side wall and get it limbered up. Maybe tomarrow. I was hopeing you guys had ways of dealing with this. Z06

Let me know what you come up with. My flat spots always went away, except when I aired down and threw them out of balance, then it was a permanent shake until they were balanced. Have a bigrig shop balance them if you can, it will be way more acurate than any tire store.

Screw paying for balance.  For a heavy tire like a bogger just put 2 shots (shot glasses) of bb's in each tire and go with it.  You'll still have flat spots but balance wont be ab issue anymore.  I run my sx's at 80 on the freeway with beadlocks and they dont vibrate.

First thing I would do is have the tires balanced again, this will kill 2 birds with one stone.

 1. to see if your beads have slipped,
 2. to check to see if they are out of balance.

Sometimes, tire companies use weighted patches in the tire to cut down on the amount of lead weight on the wheel.  If this is the case, maybe a patch came loose?!?!  You've driven 80 miles, has this been continously, or over a period of a couple weeks?? If you've driven 80 miles straight nonstop, a bias will have warmed up and smoothed out!  How are your shocks??  A worn out shock will allow your tire to bounce like "a basketball."

One other thing could also be that your tire casing is green, (wasn't vulcanized properly when in manufacturing) and the heat from running at low psi will cause the tire to start to come apart!  But this only happens in very rare occasions, usually a plant will catch this before they are sent out, but sometimes a few slip through!  Get it checked out and let us know!!  A trip to the tire store will get most of this figured out!

Sand WILL clog up your valve core when you are airing down. Quicksilver bb's wont. ;)

I've been told that golf balls will work too.A friend of mine said his dad would put 3 in each tire and never had any problems.I've never tried it so I can't say for sure if it works or not.

Well, I drove to work this morning with 15 psi in the front an 13 psi in the back (25 miles) When I got here it was still chilly outside but the tires did get a little heat in them. Oh by the way with this amount of air the bounce was almost gone completely! I aired them up as soon a I got here. Just went out for lunch and I would say they are 95% better. Maybe I am ruining too much air?? 27 front 22 back. What kind of highway pressures are you guys running? I will drop it by the tire shop after work and have the tires balanced to see if what is left is balancing. Z06
