1980 Pickup Wiring Harness
« on: Apr 23, 2015, 04:53:58 AM »
I just got ahold of an all stock '80 4x4 4spd. It's a great looking truck, but the wiring is a nightmare. Instead of going through it all, is there an entire
harness I could buy and just get rid of the old crap that's in it.

Does anyone make an entire wiring harness for these, or should I make my own?
The only thing I've found online are the Painless universal ones.

They get pretty crusty but the early harness is pretty simple.  I think I'd take it apart and try to fix it up.  I know a guy who used the painless one in a truck and it was not at all painless...

Ignore these replies. I'm replying so that I have enough posts to be able to open a want folder in the for sale section.

I would use a new universal wiring harness as opposed to a hacked up 30+ year old one  :twocents:

I have personally used a Painless one on a Jeep and it wasn't that bad to do. Try Googling "universal wire harness kit" and you can find a lot of different manufacturers to choose from.
