Crossover steering

Hey guys was just wondering what you thought about welding the steering plates on the passenger side to make crossover steering? I did this before but it was on a trailer and never saw the road. My latest project will be on the road a bit. I am a very good welder but i heard that you heat the ends before welding? Any feedback will help.

I have seen it done..I don't know I would trust it but I have seen it done..You can buy just a arm for that side that seems to be more reliable then welding cast..I think if I was to weld cast i would always worry about it when wheeling..
