Dual Cases, Stock Axle Gears?
« on: Mar 02, 2015, 05:07:12 PM »
I just got my hands on an all stock '81 4x4 22r 5spd. I don't want to modify it too much, but I'd like to be able to take it off road mildly and still make it back home.

I have the idea of keeping the gear ratio in the axles stock, but putting in dual t-cases and locking it front and rear.
Is this a silly idea?

There's no right or wrong way to build your truck. Unless you plan putting big tires on it probably the stock gears will be fine. If lockers and dual cases works for you, then do it.

Gotcha. Seems like a backwards way to build a truck, but it keeps it looking stock with added performance I suppose.

that sounds like a sweet sleeper u got planned, lots of guys build em that way,

like 31s or 32s on 4.10 stock gears will do plenty fine locked with duals.

might want to change up the leaf spring packs though for something less stiff

Oh, thanks for the tip on the leafs. They seem stock, so yeah, change would be good.
