1989 22RE #2 Cylinder
« on: Dec 18, 2014, 10:00:27 AM »
My 1989 Toyota 4 Cylinder 22RE has been running a little rough at idle. It has 245 K miles on it. I finally tracked it down to a #2 cylinder that must have very low compression, or is otherwise having some problem making power. The bottom line is that when I removed the plug wire from the #2 cylinder the roughness stopped.

What is the best way to fix this problem? Do the valves play a part in the overall operation of the #2 cylinder? I just got a valve job done. It does have a TRD cam sprocket. Should I overhaul all four cylinders. I want to buy a new Tacoma soon, so I don't want to spend to much on my 1989, but I want to keep it for off road fun when I get my new truck.

Your expertise would be appreciated, thanks.

It's not just a bad plug or plug wire is it?

I put on new plug wires, and it has new plugs as well. I think that I am going to unscrew the spark plug and see what it looks like. A compression test is also in the works.
