Alignment
« on: Aug 13, 2014, 09:46:54 AM »
I just picked up an 85 4runner with some kind of suspension lift and a body lift.  It has Crossover high steer and It pulls to the left very badly.  Just wondering if anyone has any tips on aligning these high steer kits.  Thanks for any help.

I made some alignment bars the bolt on to the lug studs. I have them marked in the center and on each end for my tire size. With them bolted on I take a measurement on the front and back marks, looking for a 1/8-1/4 inch difference, smaller in front for "toe-in". I have used this method all of my life on go-carts to top fuel dragsters and all solid axles in between. Toe-in is the only easily made adjustment on Toyotas!!

excellent example provided by oops, dont take it to a shop, they will charge u a buttload and u will just be back again after a few wheeling trips.

i do mine this way and it works all the time. tire wear is even too.

u can also use a piece of flat bar clamped to the rotors. i used some flat wood once as well

Yep, toe in is about 1/4" by my measurement.  I am starting to think the leak at my IFS gear box could have something to do with it.

a bent axle housing could cause it or a ruined wheel bearing or steering knuckle misalignment

I read somewhere that after you drive around for a bit if you put your hand on the locking hub and its hot, it could be a bad wheel bearing, which would drag more and cause a dive to that side under breaking and could cause drift also
