Is this going in the front or rear ?

For the front go with the detroit , for the rear get the spool or save $189.00 and weld it.

first choice spool or if you can do it right and want to save some $$ then weld it up. Detroits are better in front

:flamer: Weld um up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I drive mine almost every day and have no problems with it.  If you only drive it mostly off road than you will end up loving your lincoln locker, if it breaks, which is a slim chance, you can just weld it again. :turtle:  :usa:

ya you put a detroit in the front you are going to be blowing something out, birfs, sheering hubs, or even the gears. I have been running my detroit for 5 years and had no problems.

Will a detroit locker for a standard 8" third member fit in a high pinion third member or are the carriers different?
If you still have control you aren't going fast enough

Rockcrawlintoy

the carrier doent care if it is a high or lo pinion.

I don't know about just re welding it if it breaks.  When mine broke it destroyed the case and the ring and pinion.  Don't get me wrong I have nothing against welding a diff, I would weld one again.  Just don't know about re welding.  Detroit lockers break also, usually when a shaft lets go.  Every thing has so much tension on it and then all of a sudden something gives way, it can be enough to destroy a locker and a ring and pinion.

Well I think I am going with a spool from Marlin.
I like simplicity.
And since the spool has no moving parts it sounds
pretty simple.
Also I don't know anyone with real good welding skills :sad2:
And welding up the gears sounds kinda iffy to me anyhow.
Not to knock anyones welded up gears or anything.
Thanks
