L series tranny question???

Went to roll the cab off my 83. And, when I rolled it off, it snagged the tranny shifter. When it did that, it broke the shifter housing (lesson learned, have some friends handy next time. But we all do stupid things when we're in a hurry) I put the other cab on. And bolted it down already. Now, I can't get that shifter housing off so I can fix my tranny. Got the shifter pulled but can't figure out how I can get the housing off without either dropping the tranny. Or, taking the cab back off. Is there some certian face I need to make while trying to pull the housing and it will magically pull out?  Or, am I missing a bunch of stuff? I have a Haynes book. But it don't say a word about this..

it's been a while sence I've had mine out butt I think it's a one pice top? if so you have to pull the trans. or the cab again.

No, the shifter plate and the plate with the shift forks are seperate. But I do think you're right about pulling the tranny. It looks like I have to pull both plates. I was hoping to have this truck done by Easter weekend. And, I still have a bunch of stuff to do. More work than I thought to swapping an 87 2wd body onto an 83 4wd frame and running gear. But, stuff did line up better than I thought though.

Already done. I just unbolted the cab and lifted it about 10 inches. Then, I just pulled everything off. No big deal. Guess I was making a big deal outta nothing.
