86 22re cold start
«

I'm chasing down a cold start problem. It takes a couple minutes to get the motor to start. After it's warmed up, it'll start instantly. I think I have it narrowed down to the cold start injector. I pulled the injector, cranked the key and it didn't spray anything at all. I put a meter on it and when the key was being cranked, it read around 4.6 volts to the sensor. Is that what it's supposed to be?
I read somewhere that 22re injectors are supposed to read between 6-12 volts. I checked the ohm's of the injector and switch according to the chilton manual. Both were good except the injector. it was supposed to read between 2-3 ohms, it read an avg. of 1.8.
Open to suggestions. Also looking for whatever parts we narrow it down to. :

Sounds like you need to replace your cold start injector. The FSM say between 2-4 Ohms. Either way yours is still out of spec.
Here is another test you can do if you are hesitant to replace it without fully testing it.

I just tried that. Worked flawlessly. So then its not getting signal. Can someone tell Me how many volts the cold start injector is supposed to see? If its supposed to be ~12 then I'm short. I'm only getting 4-6 at the injector

The injector may be fine.
There's a timer sensor near the thermostat that completes the circuit.
The contacts break inside.
If you're frugal, you can fix them by taking them apart.....

Wow, thanks guys I appreciate the help. I might try rebuilding mine. Unless anybody has a good one that they'd let go of on the cheap?

Go to P-N-P and look at all Toyotas in your year range. Take a wrench with you that fits it. Cost $2.00, price of admission.

I went to two different pull a parts, pick a parts, whatever you call them yesterday. At the first lot, they had six pickups, I'll carb. Second lot, one pickup, it was frame and cab only. No 4runners. Two celicas, neither had motors.

Check on car-part.com for a wrecker in your area that has the part.

The downpipe where the 2 little pipes merge is known to crack and you may need to reweld it.............

You hit the nail on the head.
I picked up an lc engineering header off of craigslist. I've got it installed. But there is one bolt on the center of the front block off plate that doesn't fit and I can't figure what size that stupid bolt is supposed to be. It's also causing an exhaust leak right there. Any body know what size that bolt should be?
