3rz balance shaft delete talk
« on: Jan 31, 2014, 07:51:21 AM »
Ok so im building an 04 3rz with all fresh parts for my taco cause the one in my truck has bad rings and a slight rod knock...I endin up doin the delete and I used a 2rz oil squirer slightly modified. I'm sure a guy could use the factory b shaft tensioner that has the t chain and b shaft oil squirer holes on it but I would plug the b shaft squirter hole somehow. Before I had a crazy first post on this thread but I changed it cause since then I did the delete and got to see exactly how it all worked out and what the best different ways to do it are. If yer not super poor just buy the 100 dollar kit from lc engineering but I built my own kit cause I'm poor.

Here's the hole on the tensioner that the oil squirts the timing chain from
And a view of the b shaft gears and chain.

I just bought the 2RZ squirter from LC and got the allen head and a tap from the hardware store.  I put my exsisting bearings in 180°.  I did it just because my 3RZ had a spun out back bearing/journal on the balance shaft so it was cheaper than fixing it but I really liked the idea of eliminating all those moving parts.

I have about 50K on my 3RZ and no issues so far.  I have no baseline stock 3RZ for percieved gains or added vibration, I doubt there is much difference.

i recently did the same thing...i discovered that the squiter lc sells is a custom made squirter cause i ordered a 2rz oil jet from toyota and its way different...i used it but i had to bend it a little to point at the chain and add a spacer where the old tensioner used to be thick for the guide to bolt on top...overall i am super happy with delete and i feel like i gained a tiny bit of power...and theres only maybe a little vibration at idle but thats about it..

before i was tallking about using the factory tensioner as the squiter and now that i actually did the delete i wouldnt use that because it has two squirter holes in it and once you get rid of the second chain that runs the b shafts the 2nd oil jet hole is no longer necessary...heres pics of what i did

i also got my oil galley allen plug at a hardware store, used a stock set of bearings and clocked them to plug the holes that feed them with oil....

Looks like some good fun there.  just curious. what will the benefit of this be? one less part to fail?

I am gonna find another motor here soon and start to build it. It will be my first.  :flamer:

Yea pretty much. The rear bearings on the b shafts don't get much oil so at high milesif you don't change the bearings out plan on them failing. I didn't change mine when I rebuilt my motor cause I'm an idiot and they failed. The failure smoked the rear journal on the pass side b shaft so instead of paying to get it fixed at the machine shop I just got rid of the b shafts all together. I was able give a before and after comparison and IMO I feel like my truck is faster off the line. 1st and 2nd gear are a lot nastier than they use to be but I don't have dyno proof on the matter so I can't really sit here and argue about it it's just my opinion. So yes I guess the delete something guys do for race motors or if they're just :pokinit: out of luck and poor. Less moving parts is good too.

I like the idea of less moving parts... If its power youre going for...which most of us are. I wouldn't mind a rough idle or a little more vibration.. I believe you that its faster.  :therethere: haha

i dont really need speed it just gets you alot of tickets but it is fun to get on it once in awhile...i know i got the power i want for the trails and that makes me happy... the power gain i believe i got is minimal...a turboed 3rz would be my idea of a good power gain...im stoked to go crawlin with my new motor....

How has it been running? Im doing the same thing. driver side shaft locked up. I went same route with spinning front bearings and buying 2rz squirter. need to pick up oil galley plug today.  went yesterday and i cant find a 1/16 npt allen head fitting like i thought they run in lc kit.  did you just buy a normal allen head plug that isnt pipe thread? only part im stuck on. thank you
